Chaitra Navaratri, also known as Vasantha Navaratri, is the second most popular Navaratri and is named after the Sanskrit word vasanta, which signifies spring.

Chaitra Navratri is a Hindu festival celebrated to honour the goddess Durga and her nine forms. It usually takes place in the Hindu calendar month of Chaitra (March-April) and marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year. The festival is especially significant for those who are performing a Griha Pravesh (housewarming ceremony) during this time. The festival is considered auspicious for starting new beginnings and is believed to bring good fortune and prosperity to the new home

During the Navratri, the goddess is worshipped for nine days, with each day dedicated to one of her nine forms. It is customary to perform the Griha Pravesh on the ninth day, which is considered the most auspicious day for starting new beginnings. People decorate their homes with flowers, and light lamps and offer prayers to the goddess, seeking her blessings for a happy and prosperous life in the new home

We are only a few weeks away from the Chaitra Navratri festival. Without even consulting an astrologer, this Navratri is the finest time to move into your new house if you intend to move during the Chaitra month.

This year Chaitra Navratri is observed on  March 22 to March 30.

The most fortunate days to organise your Griha Pravesh 2023 are Gudi Padwa, Vasant Panchami, and Ram Navami in the Hindu lunar month of Chaitra. During this Chaitra Navratri, moving or holding a housewarming ceremony gives happiness, success, serenity, wealth, and good health to your family. Calculating the Griha Pravesh Muhurat for 2023 can be a complex process that requires the expertise of Vastu experts and astrologers. Several factors are taken into consideration to determine the auspicious timing for the Griha Pravesh ceremony. These factors include the alignment of favourable nakshatras (lunar constellations), Lagna (ascendant), positions of the nine planets, dates, and the presence of adhik mas (an additional lunar month in the calendar)

To calculate the Griha Pravesh Muhurat, the Vastu experts and astrologers carefully analyze these factors and select a favourable time slot. It is believed that the right Muhurat ensures prosperity and good health for the homeowner

The process begins with Panchang Shuddhi, which involves ensuring the purity and correctness of the lunar calendar. Once this is done, the experts determine the suitable time for the housewarming ceremony, havan (sacred fire ritual), and shanti puja (peace invocation).

During the calculation, pandits or astrologers advise avoiding entering the new house during the time of Shukra Tara Asta (Venus in a debilitated state) and Guru Tara (Jupiter in a debilitated state) as these are considered inauspicious. These periods occur when the planets Venus and Jupiter are "combusted. "

The Shubh Muhurats (auspicious timings) for Griha Pravesh in 2023 are chosen such that they span a minimum of four hours. These Muhurats are calculated from the time of sunrise to the following day's sunrise, as per the Hindu calendar

In conclusion, calculating the Griha Pravesh Muhurat involves meticulous analysis of various astrological factors by Vastu experts and astrologers. By selecting the right Muhurat, it is believed that the homeowner can invite prosperity and good fortune into their new house

Vastu Puja holds great significance as it establishes a connection between humans and the Gods. According to ancient Vedas, Vastu Shastra is a science that allows individuals to harness the abundant benefits present in the five basic elements of nature. Akash (Sky), Prithvi (Earth), Vayu (Wind), Paani (Water), and Agni (Fire). Additionally, Vastu Puja pays homage to the deities residing in all directions and other forces and elements of nature

The primary objective of Vastu Puja is to rectify any construction errors or deviations from the natural energy flow of the Earth. These deviations, known as Vastu doshas, can potentially lead to significant mental disharmony among the residents if left unaddressed. However, it is important to note that Vastu Puja is not necessary before every Griha Pravesh Puja. People typically opt for Vastu Puja under the following circumstances

1. Scarcity of Space. When adhering to the Vedic norms of construction becomes challenging due to limited space
2. Renovation. When an old building undergoes renovations, altering the structure to accommodate a larger area
3. Continuous Occupancy. When residents have been living in the house continuously for more than 10 years
4. Returning to an Unoccupied Home. When a family returns to a previously locked home after an extended period away

Vastu Shastra draws its roots from the Matsaya Puranas, and the main presiding deity of Vastu is Kaal Purush or Purush. He is considered the principal deity of any premises and is believed to reside inverted within the Earth. Interestingly, his head lies in the northeast direction, while his feet are positioned in the southwest direction. His hands extend towards the northwest and southeast directions. According to Hindu scriptures, Brahma, the creator of the Universe, resides in his stomach or abdomen

Performing Vastu Puja with sincerity and reverence can help align the energies of the space with cosmic forces, ensuring harmony and well-being for the inhabitants

Performing Vastu Puja is an important ritual to purify a house and rectify any construction faults or negative effects. Here is a step-by-step guide to performing Vastu Puja

Items Required

  • A vessel filled with Ganga water

  • Mango leaves

  • Flowers

  • Roli (red vermillion powder)

  • Grains of rice

  • Turmeric

  • Betel nut

  • Few strands of durba grass

  • Holy red thread or Kalava

Procedure

1. Preparation. Thoroughly clean and purify the place where the Vastu Puja will be performed

2. Sankalpa. The head of the family offers petals, rice, and grains of flowers to Mother Earth while the priest recites mantras, expressing the intention (sankalpa) of performing the Vastu Puja

3. Bhoomi Abhishinchan. Invoke the presence of the divine Mother and sprinkle Ganga water using mango leaves to purify the space

4. Pran Prathista. Chant mantras and offer rice, flowers, and grains to the Goddess, seeking her blessings for the home and its occupants

5. Pit Creation

  • After completing the puja, dig a pit and place all the holy items used during the Vastu Puja in it

  • Cover the pit to prevent scattering by birds or animals

6. Completion. Once the Vastu Puja is concluded, it is common to proceed with a Griha Pravesh Puja, which is performed during the housewarming ceremony

Remember to perform the Vastu Puja with reverence and sincerity, seeking the blessings of the divine energies and ensuring harmony and positive vibrations in your home

  • In the earth, bury the flowers, leaves, and other items used in the puja. It makes excellent compost for healthy soil.

  • The wooden pieces, herbs, and flowers used in the puja can be buried in home gardens. If you don't have access to a garden, you can dispose of your trash in the bins set up by municipal governments along waterways, specifically for puja offerings

  • The importance of directions is highlighted in Vastu shastra, an old type of Indian science. Vastu refers to a location where God and humans coexist. Vastu for housing is thought to be tied to the five elements that make up the human body.

  • Gods, according to Vastu, can be found in every direction. Happiness, peace, and wealth are brought into one's life through positive energy from all directions. As a result, Vastu puja and shanti must be performed before Griha Pravesh

It might not always be possible for everyone to assemble for a puja due to the busy life many of us lead. However, with the help of technology and cell phones, it is now simple to organise religious events like the Griha Pravesh puja online. This guarantees that one begins a new chapter on an auspicious day. While the priests conduct the puja rite online, family and friends can participate from anywhere in the world

In order to perform the puja, one can now reserve a pandit online in the language they require. You can order the whole puja samagri online. Webcam-based online puja services are popular right now

Homeowners are now choosing to perform their own Griha Pravesh puja, guided digitally by a pandit through video call and chanting mantras via a smartphone or laptop. In order to advise the homeowners to imitate a gesture or recite an invocation, the priests are actually present on the screen in real-time. The interactive digital puja format is gaining popularity. Priests are now providing step-by-step instructions for puja, havan, flower placement, Kalash, auspicious objects, idols, etc. online

Another trend for the Griha Pravesh puja is the usage of English for the narration of the rituals, as NRIs living abroad prefer it for housewarming ceremonies. Priests thus provide English translations of shlokas
