How to Copy a Spotify Playlist

This guide will show you how to copy a Spotify playlist in less than five seconds. You can copy any Spotify playlist, but this is most useful when you find an awesome shared playlist that you want to keep a copy of. We use this to save a copy of a shared Spotify playlist that constantly changes with new music.

By copying the Spotify playlist to a private Spotify playlist we can keep a copy that will not change to listen to over and over. The original shared Spotify playlist is still in our list of playlists so we can keep getting fresh music. Another benefit of copying a shared Spotify playlist to your own is that you can delete songs you dont like or add songs that you want to be a part of the playlist.

You dont need to add songs to your new Spotify playlist one by one, but you wont be able to do this from your iPhone, Android or iPad. This works best on your computer. You dont need to save the playlist locally or make it available offline for this to work.

You need the Spotify app or program installed on your computer to do this. You cannot dothis in the Spotify web player or on your mobile device. Download the Spotify app to get started, or open the app on your computer.

How to Copy a Spotify Playlist

In this case we are making a copy of a shared Spotify playlist that was only available for one week before it changed. We saved the shared Spotify playlist to keep the 414 song playlist intact, right before the creator changed it back to a mix of multiple artists.

In the Spotify app on your computer click on the Spotify playlist you want to copy. You will now see a list of tracks that you need to select or highlight.

Open a Spotify Playlist and click on one song then select all.

Instead of clicking on each track, you can click on one track to highlight it. Click on the date added so you dont accidentally go to the track or album. You need to be on the playlist to make a copy of it.

After you have one track selected press Command + A on Mac or Control + A on Windows to select all tracks. All of the tracks will now be highlighted in a light gray.

Right click and Add all tracks to a new Spotify playlist.

Right click on a track on Windows or two finger click on a Mac. Move your mouse over Add to and then choose a playlist name or create a new playlist.

Thats all you need to do to copy a Spotify playlist. This will create a copy on your account that will not change. You can now rename the playlist, edit the playlist and it works just like a playlist you created.

You can use our guide to download a Spotify playlist to your iPhone, iPad or Android device. This works on your playlists and on shared Spotify playlists.
