HP laptop battery draining while plugged in

I noticed one day I was playing mad max and noticed sound crackling and popping soo I checked on the desktop for heat I found it got to 89 celsius and battery reached 80% and it was plugged in and started at 100 and now I play overwatch and the same thing happens .. I used to play overwatch on epic graphic settings and I had no problem the highest the heat went was 76 celsius now I lowered graphics and yet it reaches till 87 celsius and loses battery charge till like 80 something .. is my laptop fried? did I push it too hard? also I have the laptop for less than a year now and it happened suddenly on that one day like it was working fine even for Battlefield 1 on high settings ... also I'd like to add that I usually put a fan beside it when gaming but that one day when playing mad max I did no put a fan it was all the laptop's cooling so could that be what damaged it? and is it really damaged? what should I do ?
