How to Power Reset Your Laptop Computer

hard-reset-laptop

A power reset or hard reset helps a frozen computer to function again. When we opt for this method, the computers memory is eared apart from personal data. Therefore, if your system has a blank screen or the system has frozen, then opting for a power reset will help you to solve the problem.

The hard reset is called so because you actually have to press the reset button for a few seconds or just press and leave rather than accomplishing a restart through a software.

So if you press the start button of your laptop and it doesnt seem to respond then probably power reset is the best option for you. Since your laptop is not responding, then the system must have built up residual electrical charge in the capacitors. Hence, in order to make it normal again, you need to discharge the electrical charge. For this, you have to disconnect all the sources of power, such as a battery.

Power reset in a laptop might be a tedious task because most of them have inbuilt batteries. But if there is a provision to remove the battery, then it will be quicker.

So here are the steps you need to follow while you power reset your laptop computer:

  1. Disconnect all devices such as USB devices, external displays, etc.
  2. Disconnect the ac adapter.
  3. Remove the battery by disconnecting it from the motherboard.
  4. If the battery is inbuilt try holding the power button for 20-25 seconds, in this way you remove all the residual power that is left on the laptop.
  5. Place the case back on its position.
  6. Now, connect the ac adapter and plug it into an ac jack. This will ensure that the problems related to the battery come in no way.
  7. Try pressing the power button. If built up residual electrical charge was the issue, then it must start up.
  8. After the operating system has been booted up, turn off the laptop normally.
  9. Disconnect the ac adapter.
  10. If you had to remove the battery, put it back on to its position, reassemble the system.
  11. Reconnect the ac adapter and start up the laptop again.

These steps are sure to power reset your computer laptop and ensure that there are no built up residual electrical charge.
