Previously on The Blacklist Season 9 Episode 1 premiere, Agent Dembe Zuma was badly injured after his partner was killed during an undercover operation to intercept microchips. He called in Former FBI Agent Harold Cooper to help who then turned to the old team. Cooper managed to lure Raymond Red Reddington out of hiding to help. They discovered it was the work of The Skinner, the head of an international piracy theft organization. As the team reassembled and tracked down the chipmaker, he and his family were kidnapped by The Skinner. The team learned that his name was on the blacklist. On The Blacklist Season 9 Episode 2, The Skinner, Graham Anderson, had Chen [the microchip engineer] and his family hold up. The buyer came and wasnt on board with kidnapping- only the theft of the high-tech chips. Anderson killed the man in front of the family sending a message to them if they do not listen to his demands.

The Band Is Back Together

Agent Zuma got out of the hospital early to help the team. He advised Cooper that they needed the help of the senator. Cooper visitedSenator Cynthia Panabaker. She was the bureaucrat who disbanded the band and if Reddington returned it would void his immunity agreement. After some hardball, she gave them access to their former facility, tech, and tactical teams if needed.

When they arrived at their FOB, Reddington was already there. He confided in Cooper that he had obligations to Lizs daughter.

Trading A Live For Lives

Anderson took Chen to his office to gain access to the chips proprietary software, he told him he had a man on the inside tracking his movement and communique. Alina found out Chen was actually at the office in Washinton D.C. They pondered why was he there by force?

Chen called a colleague back in Taiwan to plead that he send the software for the chip against protocol. He told the man his family had been abducted- ultimately he sent it. Alina and Aram got to Chens office just in time as he exited. They turned on the noise and cherries chasing the engineer and caught up to him.

When the team interviewed Chen, they learned he was trading his life for his familys life. The team had a couple of advantages; they had Chen and the software. They formed a plan to help him get his family back. They planned to swap his eyeglasses with audio surveillance. He would also give The Skinner a faked chip, while tactical teams intercepted the pirate at the meet.

Going Over Your Head

Reddington returned to the former Skinner, Vincent Duke, about his successor. He wanted him to talk some sense into current the lunatic leader. They visited a woman at Dukes senior care home to help revoke Andersons authority. She was The Skinner prior to Duke.

Voted Out

Cooper updated Senator Panabaker about the situation. She developed advantageously green eyes meaning, if the U.S. government confiscated the chip and software then forced Chen to teach them how to replicate it, the country can cut out the middleman, and be the technological global juggernaut. She demanded Chens location and Cooper refused to supply it

Chen met with Anderson and his family wasnt there. The goons started to verify the chip but Chen cracked under pressure and told him the FBI was outside right now and listening to them. The small team was forced to go in blind and without a tactical team to reinforce help.

Anderson knew they were surrounded and used Chens wife as a pawn to get them to reveal themselves. He shot the woman in the leg. The team was ordered by Cooper not to reveal themselves and Anderson grabbed the girl to shoot her too then Ressler revealed himself. Zuma and Alina followed.

Suddenly, Reddington crashed the party with Duke and his predecessor. They forced a mandate to band together to vote him out. Anderson demanded one of the goons kill the former leaders and the man wouldnt. Claiming it was against the rules. So Anderson boasted he would do it himself and all of the goons turned on him. He was shocked at their disobedience to him. They told him they worked for the organization not him and there were rules to obey.

Anderson aimed his gun and they shot him in the head. Duke demanded that Chens family be let go and before they fled, Reddington volunteered to appoint The Skinners new leadership as it returned to Duke by default. And Duke was no longer interested in ruling the global pirates.

Cooper returned the chip and software to Chen and arranged for his familys safe return home to Taipei.

Reactivated

Reddington visited Lizs daughter from a distance and still hadnt approached the girl. He left and broke into Panabakers home to broker a deal with her.

Reddington returned to the group and informed them his immunity deal was restored and the Senator signed off on them officially banding together, again.

We see Reddington receive The Skinner tattoo. Seems hell serve the U.S. government in maintaining the blacklist and on the contrary lead an international piracy ring
