Why was Utopia cancelled by Amazon Prime Video?
Utopia premiered on Amazon Prime Video in September 2020 after two years of being in the making.
The series is based on the British series of the same name, which starred Fiona O'Shaughnessy,Adeel Akhtar,Paul Higgins,Nathan Stewart-Jarrett,Alexandra Roach, Oliver Woollford,Alistair PetrieandNeil Maskell.
While the original series ran for two seasons between 2013 and 2014, the US remake will only have one season.
Utopia was originally picked up by HBO in 2014, with David Fincher and his Gone Girl collaborator and Sharp Objects writer, Gillian Flynn at the head of the project.

Fincher left the series in 2018 and the show moved to Amazon Prime, starring John Cusack, Rainn Wilson, Sasha Laneand Ashleigh LaThrop.
The series follows the story of comic book fans who come across a seemingly fictional comic book series about a deadly pandemic.
However, they soon realise the events in the comic book are very real.
Unfortunately, an exact reason for the shows cancellation has not yet been given by Amazon Prime Video.

According to Deadline, the series had so-so reviews and a quiet run which may have factored into Amazons decision not to order a second outing.
Amazon does not release its viewership data but the series has only achieved a 51% rating on popular review site, Rotten Tomatoes.
Utopia joins shows such as The Expanse, Bosh and Goliath which have also recently been called by Amazon.

Speaking to Radio Times ahead of the season one premiere, showrunner Gillian Flynn had shared her hopes for a second series.

She also revealed work on season two was underway so, hopefully, another network will step in to save the series.
Flynn said: I would say it is a very deliberate sort of cliffhanger.
We already are just dipping into season two. And Ive told everyone, the world is open, lets see what we want to do.
She added: Theres gonna be morethe ideas I played with as far as Home and where Jessica [played by Sasha Lane] comes from, and what that background is, and what Christie [John Cusack] really wants, are all explained a little bit more in that final episode.
Nothing gets nailed down, but there is a lot more of a glimpse into things weve been alluding to. For me, it really finalises the mythology of the show.
Flynn continued: I wont write every episode myself this time, that was exhausting, so we have our writers room.
So thats really where we are, were just now kind of starting out.
But there is a hope and intention to do a season two. Theres certainly enough to play with for sure.

Utopia fans have taken to Twitter to share their sadness about the shows cancellation.
One fan tweeted: Just found outUtopiagotcancelledand Ill never get closure.
A second fan said: Utopiaiscancelled? Thats so weird...Season 1 abruptly ended. Felt as if the story wasnt even done being remotely told.
A third fan added: And in other news,Utopiahas beencancelledafter one season on Amazon. Now both the US and UK versions have fans that are upset that the story won't be continuing. I was hoping that we'd get more of this one.
