Cuộc cách mạng công nghiệp  4.0 là cuộc cách mạng dựa trên nền tảng tích hợp cao độ của hệ thống kết nối Số hóa – Vật lý – Sinh học với đột phá của Internet kết nối vạn vật và trí tuệ nhân tạo. Do đó đào tạo khoa học cơ bản đóng vai trò hết sức quan trọng để đưa Việt Nam trở thành nước công nghiệp theo hướng hiện đại. Trường ĐH Khoa học Tự nhiên – ĐHQG TP.HCM là một trong những cái nôi khoa học của cả nước với 9 Khoa và nhiều trung tâm nghiên cứu, phòng thí nghiệm trọng điểm, do đó có thế mạnh liên ngành. SV ngành Vật lý sẽ được tham gia vào nhiều đề tài nghiên cứu có tính ứng dụng cao nhằm giải quyết các vấn đề khoa học kỹ thuật có tính liên ngành cao.
