The Hellcat was introduced in 2015, and it really caused a huge buzz in the muscle car community and got people very excited about Dodge. In both the Charger and Challenger, Dodge threw a 6.2L supercharged Hemi V8 engine under the hood, initially with 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.
So why is the 2023 Dodge SRT Hellcat important? Well, that would be because this is very likely going to be the last factory-produced Hellcat to be created and sold to the public from Dodge. They confirmed that the current Hellcat powertrain would be built through 2023, and then the new Dodge cars would be electrified in 2024, moving on from the gas-guzzling powerhouses. So, because the 2023 Hellcat is the last model year, it seems like Dodge wants to go out with a bang with one last special edition variant as a swan song before it’s gone.

The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon was the most absurd car to roll out of a Dodge workshop since the altered wheelbase cars of the 1960s—only, this machine was headed straight to the streets. The folks over at Mopar Insiders have caught wind that the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon might get knocked from its throne by a over-900-hp Challenger. This speculative Challenger is expected to follow the Demon’s footsteps and run on something besides normal pump gas—more specifically, on E85.
The roughly 85 percent ethanol blend is a popular modification for enthusiasts chasing a lot of octane for a relatively low price tag. This blend of ethanol and gasoline has a few properties that make it a popular fuel, namely its octane rating and its cooling effect. Of course, there are a few downsides that Dodge engineers are probably facing, like hygroscopic nature and the loose regulations surrounding the fuel.
This kind of high-horsepower Challenger would make for a fitting send-off to the beloved Hellcat engine and current Challenger shell. Dodge is looking to phase out the beloved, supercharged V8 as it rolls out its electric muscle car.
It’s worth noting that this is still speculation. That said, there are aftermarket solutions to bring your base Challenger Hellcat up to Demon levels of horsepower, so the powers at Dodge likely have the resources to do something similar. Of course, if Dodge unleashes a 900+ hp Challenger, it will probably have more than just a handful of engine upgrades.
