The xDrive45e plug-in hybrid (PHEV), which combines a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine and an electric motor, produces 389 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque.

Both the M50i and M trims are powered by a 4.4-liter V8 engine, which generates 523 horsepower and 553 lb-ft torque for the M50i trim and 600 horsepower and 553 lb-ft for the M trim. Also, all X5 trims feature an eight-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, except for the rear-wheel drive sDrive40i, the X5 has an all-wheel drive system.
